Agnico Eagle Mines Limited (NYSE:AEM, TSX:AEM) (“Agnico Eagle” or the “Company”) regrets to report a fatal accident involving an employee of a contractor has occurred near its Hope Bay mine in northwestern Nunavut, on September 14, 2021.

The accident occurred at approximately 3:02 p.m. local time on September 14, 2021, approximately 13 km from Hope Bay’s Doris mine facilities. The emergency response team and medic from Hope Bay responded immediately to the incident. The RCMP in Cambridge Bay have been notified as well as the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission. An investigation will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Operations at the Hope Bay project have been temporarily suspended for approximately 24 hours. Agnico Eagle will work with the contractor to ensure all the necessary support and assistance will be provided to the individual’s family during this difficult time. The Company will also provide support and counselling to assist our employees and contractors at the camp.

The Hope Bay property is located in the Kitikmeot region of Nunavut, Canada, approximately 685 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife and 125 kilometres southwest of Cambridge Bay. Agnico Eagle acquired the property in February 2021.
