At Agnico Eagle, the commitment to community development is exemplified through the Nangminiqaqtunik Ikajuutiit business mentorship program in Nunavut. Launched in 2023, this program is designed to nurture and support local entrepreneurs, helping them turn their business aspirations into reality.

A Vision for Growth

The Nangminiqaqtunik Ikajuutiit program was established with a clear vision: to provide mentorship and support to both established Inuit businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs. Our goal is to empower and assist in the development or expansion of their ventures by providing access to experienced mentors in the North. These mentors deliver essential guidance on business planning, funding, accounting, recruitment, and other key areas. By addressing these fundamental aspects, Agnico Eagle aims to empower local businesses and future entrepreneurs to seize new opportunities.

A Year of Success

In 2023, Agnico Eagle welcomed its first cohort of five mentees, including two inspiring women. In 2024, the program expanded to include five new mentees, with four being women. This growth highlights Agnico Eagle’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity. From the first 10 participants, we have people from Baker Lake, Rankin Inlet, Arviat, and Coral Harbour. After only two years, we were able to enroll and offer support to businesses from 5 of the 7 Kivalliq communities.

Among the talented mentees, we have women actively developing and pursuing entrepreneurial initiatives. These efforts include establishing commercial properties, identifying ways for businesses to support mental health services, accessing funding, expanding existing enterprises, exploring new business opportunities within their communities, and continuing family business legacies.

Keep an eye out for upcoming updates later in the fall, to read more personalized success stories through our Nangminiqaqtunik Ikajuutiit business mentorship program.
