Agnico Eagle would like to inform the community of Baker Lake that during the routine inspection at the Baker Lake Fuel Farm a leak was found in the containment berm near the fuel tank 5.

No impact on the environment was caused since the fuel is contained in the containment berm. This berm is specifically designed to retain any potential leakage from the tank. The event was reported to the regulators on September 22nd. For now, the quantity of fuel that has leaked is not determined, a working team is on their way to pump the fuel that is in the containment berm.

An investigation in ongoing including a complete inspection of the tank to understand where the leak comes from. We will keep the concerns authorities and the community of Baker Lake informed of the results of our investigation.

To ensure the safety of all the Baker Lake community members, all preventive measures that were developed to prevent a potential spread of COVID-19 will be respected. We ask your support to maintain the strict no-contact policy between Agnico Eagle workers and community members at the Baker Lake Fuel Farm.

Thank you for your collaboration in ensuring everyone’s safety.
