Supporting Food Security Across the Kivalliq Region

Food security remains a significant challenge for many families across the Kivalliq region, where access to affordable and nutritious food can be limited by geography, transportation costs, and seasonal availability. Recognizing these ongoing pressures, Agnico Eagle committed $135,000 earlier this year to support community‑led food security initiatives throughout the region. This contribution enabled the preparation and distribution of food hampers in all seven Kivalliq communities, reinforcing our commitment to supporting families where help is needed most.

This regional initiative was grounded in collaboration. Agnico Eagle worked closely with local partners, volunteers, and community organizations to ensure that the funding translated into meaningful, practical support. Each community shaped the initiative according to its own needs and capacity, but the shared purpose remained consistent: helping households access essential food items during a time of heightened demand.

Across the region, teams came together to assemble and distribute food hampers that provided families with a variety of staple items. While the scale and logistics varied from one community to another, the spirit of cooperation was the same everywhere. Volunteers, community staff, and Agnico Eagle employees contributed their time and energy to ensure the hampers reached as many households as possible. Their collective efforts reflect the strength and resilience that define the Kivalliq.

The initiative also highlighted the importance of community partnerships in addressing food security challenges. By working alongside local organizations and respecting community‑driven approaches, Agnico Eagle supported efforts that were rooted in local knowledge and priorities. This collaborative model ensures that support is not only delivered efficiently but also aligns with the values and expectations of the people it is meant to serve.

Food security is a complex issue, and while short‑term supports like food hampers cannot solve it alone, they play an important role in easing immediate pressures on families. These initiatives help bridge gaps during periods when access to food is particularly strained, whether due to high costs, limited availability, or other local factors. They also strengthen community connections by bringing people together around a shared goal: ensuring that families have what they need.

Agnico Eagle remains committed to contributing in ways that are meaningful, respectful, and responsive to community needs. Our support for food hampers across all seven Kivalliq communities reflects this commitment. It is one part of our broader effort to work collaboratively with communities, listen to their priorities, and contribute to initiatives that make a tangible difference in people’s daily lives.

As we continue to build long‑term relationships across the region, we remain focused on supporting initiatives that promote well‑being, strengthen local capacity, and reflect the values of the communities we work with. Food security will continue to be an important area of focus, and we are proud to stand alongside our partners in addressing this challenge together.
