Ariane Ballard, Nunavut Pandemic Lead/Project Lead

Ariane Ballard joined the Agnico Eagle family in 2019 as a Nurse for our Meliadine site. When the COVID-19 pandemic first hit, Ariane stepped up and helped manage the crisis with her professionalism, energy and expertise. Ariane was promoted to Pandemic Coordinator in November 2020, where she continued to excel, and was appointed one year later, in November 2021, to Nunavut Pandemic Lead, overseeing the pandemic response plans and measures for our Meliadine and Meadowbank Complex sites and the Hope Bay project. Not afraid to put in the extra hours, Ariane is brilliant when it comes to crisis management. Her proactiveness and diligence in facing the pandemic head-on were integral in helping to keep the operations running during the pandemic. Her many successes have led her to be selected as part of the 2023 cohort of Agnico Eagle’s Dr. Leanne Baker Scholarship.

“I applied for the Program because I believe this represents an incredible opportunity for me to develop the necessary skills to reach a senior leadership position. I am hoping this program will help me develop my business acumen and allow me to gain the necessary self-confidence to take advantage of opportunities that would never have arisen otherwise,” says Ariane Ballard.

She goes on to mention that learning from mentors whom she admires and who are inspiring leaders, receiving feedback, and learning from top-class advisors will be an amazing opportunity for her. Ariane hopes to reach new heights to ultimately unlock her full potential.

“It will definitely be a game changer for my career at Agnico Eagle,” says Ariane.

About the Dr. Leanne Baker Scholarship

The Scholarship and development program was created in honour of the late Dr. Leanne Baker, a valued member of Agnico Eagle’s Board of Directors and the Chair of the Board’s Audit Committee. The objective of the scholarship and development program is to support a cohort of women working for Agnico Eagle identified as having promise or who have expressed interest for advancement into leadership positions through a 2-year mentorship and training program.

We wish Ariane the very best during this 2-year endeavor, and we look forward to seeing the opportunities this program opens for her. We have no doubt that her drive, talents, and professionalism will lead to a bright future.

On behalf of the whole Nunavut team, we want to say that we are so proud of you, Ariane, and appreciate your dedication towards Agnico Eagle! We hope your story inspires many other women in the mining industry.
