Sara Savoie, Environment General Supervisor at Meliadine mine, selected as one of this year’s recipients of Agnico Eagle’s Dr. Leanne Baker Scholarship

We are proud to share that Sara Savoie, Environment General Supervisor at Meliadine mine, was selected as one of this year’s recipients of Agnico Eagle’s Dr. Leanne Baker Scholarship. As we continue to celebrate the achievements of women who contribute to the success of our Nunavut operations, we are pleased to present you with a profile on Sara below.

Sara Savoie, Environment General Supervisor

Sara Savoie joined the Agnico Eagle family in 2019 as a compliance counselor at Meliadine mine. Her strong instincts and dedication to delivering high-quality work while tackling new responsibilities did not go unnoticed. Sara was promoted to RMMS & Compliance Coordinator in 2021, a role that saw her in charge of establishing the Compliance team within Meliadine mine’s environment department, and in 2022, she was promoted again to Environment General Supervisor. Sara has always had the company and her team’s success at heart. As a loyal and devoted collaborator, Sara steps up when needed to ensure her team members have the necessary resources and support. She played an essential part in building the strong environmental compliance team in place at Meliadine mine today. These accomplishments, among others, have led her to be selected as part of the 2023 cohort of Agnico Eagle’s Dr. Leanne Baker Scholarship recipients.

“I’ve had the chance to work with various strong leaders since joining Agnico Eagle, and they have all been very generous in providing me with great insights and learning opportunities. I believe that the tools and development opportunities the program offers will allow me to further build on these past experiences and help channel my potential to become a greater asset to the Company,” says Sara.

She goes on to say that she hopes the program will help her reach her professional development and leadership goals more efficiently, in a structure outside of the fly-in fly-out rotational schedule that comes with working in the North.

“I am super excited to be part of the program and I hope I can encourage other colleagues to participate in it, as colleagues from the first cohort did with me,” adds Sara.

About the Dr. Leanne Baker Scholarship

The Scholarship, which includes a 2-year mentorship, training, and development program, was created in honour of the late Dr. Leanne Baker, a valued member of Agnico Eagle’s Board of Directors and the Chair of the Board’s Audit Committee. The objective of the scholarship and development program is to support a cohort of women working for Agnico Eagle, who have been identified as having promise or who have expressed interest in advancement into leadership positions.

We wish Sara all the best as she begins this 2-year journey. As we know, her conceptual thinking and communication have greatly contributed to her own and Meliadine’s success— Meliadine would not be at the same standard of compliance management today without her contributions.

On behalf of the Nunavut team (with a special mention from your Meliadine family! 😊), Sara, we are so proud and thankful for your devotion and loyalty—to your immediate team and to Agnico Eagle. We hope your story inspires many other women in the mining industry. We are confident that you will excel in this program!
